Christopher Box creates a daily menu at the Crown & Garter Country Pub

Our philosophy is to provide restaurant quality food in a traditional Country Inn environment. Our portions are generous, using the very best and freshest ingredients, mostly locally sourced where we can. Our menus change daily to reflect what we are able to secure at the time.

From Wednesday to Friday we put together a special limited choice 2-course menu, which is in addition to our normal menu and our range of sandwiches and Ploughman's lunches. On Sundays we offer a choice of traditional roasts for which booking is recommended (see instant option at the right).

We aim to create a friendly welcoming atmosphere combined with good service; you can eat anywhere in the Inn, either in our candlelit wood panelled eating area or the bar area, close to one of our three fireplaces.

In summer you may prefer to dine ‘al fresco’ on our large well-lit patio or in the traditional beer garden under our old English Oak. Unfortunately due to the vagaries of the weather we cannot reserve outside tables (We do not allow under 7s in the bar and restaurant in the evenings).

Christopher worked all over the country and now specializes in British food.

Ales

As you would imagine we take great care of our Real Ales. We are recognised by CAMRA for the care and attention we give to ensuring that we pour you a great beer. We always have two out of these three ales available, as well as additional guest ales in busier periods.

London Pride (4.1% ABV): A rich, smooth and wonderfully balanced beer. Its distinctive malty base is complemented by well-developed hop character.; Origin: Fuller's Brewery, Chiswick.
Mr Chubb's Lunchtime Bitter (3.7% ABV): A traditional English bitter with the addition of single varietal hops to give a robust bitterness and a strong hop finish.; Origin: West Berkshire Brewery, Yattendon.
Good Old Boy (4% ABV): A good balance of malt and hops giving a full-bodied bitter with strong malt flavours, yet retaining a rounded bitterness and a strong hop finish.; Origin: West Berkshire Brewery, Yattendon.
