About Us

About us

The Crown and Garter is a 17th century coaching inn, situated in Inkpen, near Hungerford, in the heart of the North Wessex Downs. Having stood its ground since 1640, it is an integral part of Inkpen and the other surrounding villages. Although we refurbished our bar and restaurant in 2014, the Crown and Garter hasn’t lost it’s old pub charm! It is the perfect stop for dog walkers - for which we provide dog bowls, cyclists who make use of the bike rack, or just those seeking an idyllic setting in which to enjoy a drink, a meal or both.

If you’re looking for a relaxing rural escape, we’re just the place for you! Book into one of our 10 beautifully designed bedrooms, each with their own unique style and personality, but with comfort always being a priority. Whether you choose to explore the serene countryside or visit local attractions like the Combe Gibbet, we guarantee that you will leave feeling well looked after and refreshed!

With a menu dictated by the seasons, the food served at the Crown and Garter is always expertly crafted by Chefs using seasonal and local produce. A regularly changing menu means that no two visits will ever be the same, but high quality and delicious food can always be counted on along with a wide selection of drinks from local distilleries and breweries.

Inkpen café is a local favourite serving coffee, tea, cakes, bread, pastries and more! Lunch can be ordered from the café or the pub and enjoyed in the beer garden, hotel room courtyard or in the café.

The Crown and Garter is a part of the Honesty Group collection of café’s, pubs and farm shops. Honesty Group was founded by Romilla Arber in 2014 and is a food business who care about their food, where it comes from, what is in it and how it is made.
